PORTIONS OF USED SPACES

USERS ACTIVITIES

TIMES SPENT IN SPACES

PEOPLE ALONE OR IN A GROUP

- Concrete path goes through the entire park, wide enough to fit 4 people side by side
- 2 large grass fields that are surrounded by trails
- Grass fields are FILLED with geese poop … ew
- The fields are divided into smaller sections with the use of trees
- There are no walls at this site but trees act as visual barriers along the perimeter of the park
- Edge conditions were created on the sides of the gazebo that act as planters for trees and shrubs - the edge conditions were at a comfortable height for users to sit on and occupy
- Other planters with edge conditions were found along the trail that lead to the bridge
- The river had rocks along the water edge that were comfortable for people to sit on and occupy for long
periods of time
- Topography - fairly flat until it reaches the dip for the water’s edge

- The park has a number of public benches along the trails.
- Picnic benches were placed to one end of the park for users to sit and eat, while being able to watch what is happening on the large field
- More picnic tables are stacked and ready to use for larger events or maybe to be scattered around the park
- Horseshoe benches are placed along the trail by the first field for moments of rest
- Many people bring their own folding chairs and sit wherever it's comfortable for them
- Many users sought spaces along the perimeters of the fields and picnicked for a large portion of the day
- Ledges act as seats on side of the skate park
- Skate park has a set of 2 long and flat benches for rest
- Skate park acts as public furniture for play/exercise
- The trees around the perimeter provide a sense of security
- There are built in park grills for people to BBQ while occupying the park (I found 4)
- An ice cream truck was parked up on the side of the park for the 6+ hours that we were there
- There are two basketball nets in close proximity to the play structure
- A play structure is on the site that was consistently occupied

- There were trees planted along the perimeter of the site to block off residential areas, and the loud train in
the western end of the park
- Trees were also planted sporadically along the trail on the opposing side of the lake by the grass fields
that created spaces for people to picnic around with a sense of security
More trees were planted along the perimeter of the other grass field
- Shadows were casted from the trees that people used to sit under as protection from the sun
- The river along the park was used by many visitors for many different purposes (canoeing, fishing, or simply
hanging out by the water; very ‘instagrammable’)
- Natural wetland vegetation also existed near the river (on and round the rocks)

- There was a train (go train) that went past the site very frequently (every 15 mins or so) - very loud,
annoying and noticeable to someone using the field furthest from the library or the skatepark
- The further field also acts as an “events space” - on site there was a picnic party with a large tent, people
having a feast and very loud music with their own DJ
- Ice cream truck was there for a large portion of the day

- There are 3 rows of picnic tables that are fixed and placed on concrete foundation - more tables are
available for use on premises that can be moved (act more as temporary elements)
- 2 fixed built in grills
- There are 13 poles with information on them fun facts about Canada - on one of the sides of the first grass
field (along the trail through the park)
- There are fixed benches throughout the park
- There is a basketball play area with two half size courts
- Fixed play structure
- A gazebo is situated on the trail beside the river with seating area and a number of tree planters near it
- There are many light poles along the trail (mainly by the first field and along the water; not many along the
second field)
